Dear Friends,

How quickly the days and months pass!  We are in the month of May and mindful that the sunny months of summer are ahead of us.  We have been energized by the sharing and exchanges of our membership through the CAMC meetings, events, and newsletter.  I extend my warmest wishes for a restful and joyful summer season.

Peace be yours,

Sixth Annual Interfaith Walk for Peace & Reconciliation
May 3, 2009

The Philadelphia Interfaith Walk for Peace and Reconciliation is an annual gathering organized by Christians, Muslims, Jews, Sikhs, Buddhists, Baha'i, secular people and others concerned about and committed to multi-religious and cross-cultural cooperation.

This year, the walk begins at 2:00 p.m. at Philadelphia Cathedral, on 38th Street between Market and Chestnut Streets.  After an opening ceremony with Jewish prayers and music, the walk proceeds to Philadelphia Masjid, 4700 Wyalusing Avenue (near Lancaster Avenue).  Our next stop is Millcreek Baptist Church at 641 N. Preston Street (on Lancaster and 41st).

As we come full circle at Philadelphia Cathedral, the walk will culminate with refreshments and socializing. Throughout the route, a bus will be provided for those who are unable to walk.

Last year the Interfaith Peace Walk drew some 800 people from all over Philadelphia including the surrounding counties. This year the walk is making its way through West Philadelphia.

True to its multi-cultural multi-religious tradition, the walk creates opportunities for people to learn about and celebrate their own and others' faiths.

By walking, praying and giving witness to suffering together, the event is meant to be a kind of walking dialogue or spiritual journey of discovery.  As such, it is intentionally non-political.  No signs or banners are permitted aside from those that express a wish for peace.
