EVONNE AND ISAAK KRUGER

Original Second Presentation:

This presentation was to present the film, The Birth of a Movement which showed how the film The Birth of a Nation ignited the battle for civil rights in America. (Last year we could not get the firm downloaded at KI and had to substitute another firm.)    The book based on the PBS documentary is now available, The Birth of a Movement: How Birth of a Nation Ignited the Battle for Civil Rights, by Dick Lehr. A second book D. W. Griffith’s The Birth of a Nation: A History of the Most Controversial Motion Picture of all Time by Melvyn Stokes is also available.

Proposed Second Presentation

This presentation will focus upon the creation of the film The Birth of a Nation as the most controversial firm made in America.  The creator, D. W. Griffith, setting, plot, and how it was made will be the focus.  Its relationship to Reconstruction and historical facts will be emphasized.
