Monday, September 19 10:30 a.m. ~ MTA ARTS AND DESIGN: The amazing free and open to the public art installations in the city w/ SYLVIA LAUDIEN-MEO

The MTA in NYC commissions the most outstanding art installations, which beautify our subway stations with cutting- edge, top notch artworks by internationally acclaimed artists. Most of them work together with mosaic, glass and metal manufacturers to translate their work into these durable and fascinating materials. Together, they celebrate New York’s cultural diversity and empower all New Yorkers to be proud members of this creative world capital! Zoom will allow us to visit many of the most outstanding stations with works by artists like Vik Muniz, Chuck Close, Faith Ringold, Jacob Lawrence, Romare Bearden, Firely Baez, Alison Saar and many many others!

Sylvia is an art historian who has worked throughout her career in several capacities: adjunct professor at FDU, gallery lecturer and educator at MoMA, the Guggenheim Museum and the Jewish Museum, walking tour guide for the Municipal Art Society and private clients. Born and raised in Germany she came to NY with a scholarship to Columbia Univ. and fell in love with the city, its rich culture and history, museum collections and special exhibitions, but also its neighborhoods and people. The past few years brought changes for most of us and for now Sylvia works remotely, taking her classes and groups on virtual tours throughout exhibitors and places, or exploring art related themes via shared slide presentations. She now lives in St Petersburg FL but hopes to be able to do in person art tours in NYC again soon.
