THE 1812 RUSSIAN CAMPAIGN AND NAPOLEON’S RETREAT w/ JIM RUBILLO
In June 1812, Napoleon invaded Russia with the largest army ever assembled to that time. By mid-September, the army advanced 550 miles to capture Moscow. An early winter made the task of supplying the large army impossible. Reluctantly, Napoleon decided to withdraw. A horrendous retreat followed in temperatures as low as -26 degrees Fahrenheit. Thousands died and the army was decimated. This session will present the story of this invasion and the hardships faced by the army during their horrendous retreat. Jim Rubillo is a retired college dean, professor, and non-profit CEO. He is a well-travelled speaker having presented over 900 talks, at least one in every state and Canadian province. Jim has an intense interest in local history and now serves on the board of the Old York Road
