THE HISTORY OF THE HARP IN ART AND MUSIC with ELLEN TEPPER

This 60-slide lecture/concert begins in 2500 B.C. and traces the development of the harp through iconography, sculpture and paintings. Ellen performs music from the 13th century to the present, illustrating major developments in music while engaging the audience with humorous takes on various historical events.

Ellen Tepper, harpist and historian, brings life to 500 years of harp music. Ellen’s repertoire ranges from 13th to 18th centuries, and includes the well-known music collected by Edward Bunting in Belfast in 1792 at the gathering of the last of the Irish minstrel harpers. Ellen conducts workshops and classes in harp performance and has served as a faculty member for Early Music Week at Pinewoods, teaching harp.
