Dear Reading Friends,
The Meyers Library is hosting an extra Adult Book Discussion Group. We will meet via Zoom on Wednesday August 12 at 1pm to discuss The Song of the Jade Lily by Kirsty Manning. Put the date in your calendar now! I am giving everyone plenty of notice so that you can find and read this exciting novel.
Last week Book Bub had a Kindle and Nook special on the book. I hope you ordered your electronic version then. I ordered a copy for the KI Library Kindles. If you are a KI member, you may borrow one of these Kindles to read the book. You will have to sign a special agreement that you will return the Kindle. I can email it to you.
We currently have one Large Print version of The Song of the Jade Lily. It is on loan to a patron. I have also ordered 2 more regular print copies. They should be catalogued and ready for borrowing late next week.
Song of the Jade Lily is a work of historical fiction that tells the story of Jewish refugees who fled to Shanghai during World War II. In 1939 two young girls meet on the boat to Shanghai. They develop a very strong friendship. The second part of the story is a fast forward to 2016 Australia. Alexandra has broken up with her boyfriend. Her Grandfather is dying. Her Grandparents start to reveal secrets from their past as refugees in Shanghai. There are hidden secrets about Alexandra’s family that she wants to learn. This is a story about love, friendship, motherhood and courage.
There is much to discuss in this book.
I am working on the compilation of our suggestions for a summer reading list. I should have it ready to email next week.
Chag Sameach. Have a joyous Shavuot.
