Rhea Dennis graduated from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After working in oils and gouache for many years she became interested in papermaking. She has developed a unique way of working with handmade paper. Rhea fuses the art of papermaking with her sensibilities as a painter. She resides in Philadelphia with her husband, Robert (who is also an artist) and a very bad dog named Petey. Rheadennis.com
To create my paintings I work intuitively. I find meaning in the sometimes-random patterns made by manipulating the pulp. While I am inspired by nature I choose not to replicate it. I have created a private language of personal line and color. As a painter, the surprises of my “happy mistakes” keep my work fresh and vibrant. I feel that there will always be a need for tactile art in our computerized society.
