Keynote Address by Rabbi Lance Sussman, Ph.D.:

From Bamberg to America, 1938-1939: The Sacki Family Story

“The story of my mother’s family’s escape from Nazi Germany has played a significant role in shaping my personality and life’s work.  A combination of planning, resources, courage and luck resulted in the successful migration of the Sacki family of Bamberg, a small city in Bavaria,  to America, 1938-1939. The Sackis quickly rebuilt their own lives in New York and Baltimore but not without Max returning to Europe  to rescue others, unsuccessfully, from Nazi Germany.”
