Julia Child (1912 – 2004) was an American cook, author, and television personality who introduced French cuisine and cooking techniques to America. She was in the vanguard of “foodies,” who by changing America’s taste, helped create modern American culture. Her most famous works are the 1961 cookbook, “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” and her first television series, “The French Chef.” She starred in eleven other television series, and was the author of eighteen other books.While her public face and voice became familiar to all of us, this play focuses on her private side, especially her relationship with her husband, Paul Child. Our play is a love story! Julia tells about growing up in southern California, her adventures in World War II, learning to cook French Cuisine, learning to teach and becoming a public figure. At the core was her love for Paul and his love for her. Linda has two other one-woman shows, “A Life of My Own: Meeting Eleanor Roosevelt,” by Stephen LaRocque, and “The Greatest Ever: Babe Didrikson Zaharias’ Story,” by Maribeth Theroux, both with Senior’s Theatre. She can be seen screaming her head off in Chris Rock’s movie, “Head of State.” Linda has been Charlotte, the camp Director in Venus Theatre’s production of “Ugly Ducklings,” and the Duchess of York in “Richard III” with the Virginia Shakespeare Company. She has worked at the Washington Stage Guild, Source Theatre and at the Maryland Renaissance Festival. Linda’s voice can be heard at the Postal Museum, the Civil Rights Museum in Memphis and at the United States’ Holocaust Memorial Museum. She narrated the three part series, “The Last of the Czars,” for Discovery Channel, which can now be seen on You Tube. Also for Discovery, Linda narrated “France’s Forgotten Shame.” She is the Dark Elf in the Morrowind Video game series. Linda is a widow and the mother of five grown children and two step daughters. Her mother was an actress and her father was a scenic designer. She lives in Solebury, Pennsylvania.
