HaMotzi Update ~ Spring 2024

In the last nine years, we have served thousands of dinners for the food insecure in our area. Rabbi David and Cantor Amy create a spiritual connection at each meal by leading the HaMotzi prayer and providing a unique connection with our guests. They continually inspire and encourage our volunteers. Cantor Amy has created a fantastic momentum of enthusiasm with “Cantor Cooks in the “KItchen,” benefiting HaMotzi Funds! Congregants, friends, and local students, including JQuest, Quest Noar, local high schools, and universities, have donated time to cook, serve, and bond with our guests. They make sure that our guests are welcomed with audacious hospitality.

We appreciate our many generous supporters and donors. Dinners cost $1800 monthly for 300 meals, except for Thanksgiving, which is $3600. While some people sponsor an entire meal, all donations are appreciatedSponsors for January were Alan and Carol Schwartz, February and March, the Michaelson Family, and Phillip and Ellen Steinberg will be sponsoring April. Thank you to Caryl and Mike Levin, who has donated cases of fresh fruit monthly since November 2015.

Here are a few notes we’ve received that tell you that HaMotzi is about more than just the food.

“God bless each of you for all your sacrifices and love so we can have fresh food. We are praying for you and all of your people near and far.

“As a Christian woman who married into a Jewish family 20 years ago, it is not difficult to imagine all of your suffering.”

“Dear HaMotzi Committee,

My wonderful friend, Fern, introduced me to your bread-blessing meal. It was beautiful to hear your prayers and song. Thank you so much for the meals and company. I wish you and your families a peaceful Thanksgiving.”

“Rabbi David, Cantor Amy, and the HaMotzi Dinner Volunteers,

At this particular time of year, I would like to thank you for all your effort, time, and kindness in preparing the delicious meals each month. Your kindness, consciousness, and smiles brighten the day. Thank you for all you do. May God continue to bless you and your families.”

“To All,

Thank you so very much for the drive-through dinners every month. They are always delicious and plentiful. Thank you, and I am grateful for all the food, vegetables, and fruit. I know it takes hours of hard work. I appreciate everything you do!”
